Geography and Climate of Rome The geography and climate of Rome allowed for permanent settlement. For example, Rome’s mild climate allowed people to grow a lot of food. Therefore, people were able to settle there and live permanently. Another example of how geography affected permanent settlement can be seen in the fact that Italy has many rivers that flow out of their mountains. Rome lies on the tiber river. Therefore, they used the rivers as a source of fresh water. Lastly, there were hills. They used the hills to protect themselves from the enemies. The text clearly outlines that these are some reasons why they chose settlement in Rome. 18/20
